Investigative Reports of parasailing accidents has been less than consistent over the last ten years.

This lack of accurate statistics has promoted a false sense of security within the industry that parasailing is safe under the current operating scenario when in reality it is not thus misleading the general public, as well as hotels, resorts, insurance companies, state and federal authorities of the potential risks, and hazards of parasailing. "Reliable parasail accident data is not readily available".  When analyzing U.S. parasailing accidents over the past twenty five years. The data was retrieved from several sources; government accident reports, interviews, insurance claims and civil lawsuits, as well as, accidents which Mark McCulloh was personally involved in as an expert investigator. Having multiple sources of data is indicative of an industry which is not controlled by any one single Authority.

Considering that most perilous accidents begin as a line separation / water landing.  Based on the statistics, the majority of these types of accidents were preventable simply by operating in safer weather conditions and using (Fatality Prevention Equipment) that is designed to automatically disconnect and/or evacuate the un-assuming/untrained parasailor from a runway parasail canopy during tow line separation in high winds.  Absent incorporating vetted "Fatality Prevention Equipment" on parasail boats, parasail fatalities will continue despite operating standards and/or regulations.

Listed below are just a few of those tragic accidents the majority of which resulting in preventable fatalities that are part of an ongoing investigation...
