- Glen Canyon National Recreation Area alerts Arizona
Personal injury lawyer- A Lake Powell parasail accident leaves woman
with a traumatic brain injury.
- Flagstaff, AZ—A parasailing accident
left a mother and son seriously injured on Lake Powell.
The incident happened on Monday Morning, September 7,
2009, near the mouth of the San Juan River, as reported
by the Arizona Daily Star.
- According to the National Park
Service, a 17-year-old boy rigged to the parasail, was
attempting to take-off from a ledge around 10 feet above
the waterline. The boy’s mother, 42, and several other
bystanders were on the ledge watching the boy take-off.
As the boat began to pull away, the sail turned sideways
and entangled the boy’s mother and dragged her a few
feet before she fell off the ledge, and onto her head
along the shore. The boy hit the ledge several times
before plummeting into the water. The mother reportedly
sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the
parasailing accident. Both the mother and son were
treated at the scene of the accident and were airlifted
by helicopter to the Flagstaff Medical Center for
treatment of their injuries. Police officials reportedly
issued the boat operator a citation for the parasailing
accident. According to the Glen Canyon National
Recreation Area, a permit is required by federal
regulations in all National Park Systems in order to
parasail. The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area do
not issue permits for parasailing because of past
accidents and the associated dangers.
